DeenBit v2.0
Our vision for a custom educational computer designed in South Africa β inspired by the micro:bit, shaped around the crescent, and built for learning, creativity and experimentation.
From micro:bit to DeenBit
DeenBit currently uses the BBC micro:bit as a powerful platform for introducing programming, electronics and sensors.
DeenBit v2.0 explores the next step: designing our own board while keeping the simplicity and hands-on learning experience that makes the micro:bit so accessible.
A board with its own identity
A custom educational board shaped around the crescent, with a focus on local design, learning and experimentation.
Crescent Design
A distinctive PCB shape inspired by the crescent rather than a conventional rectangular development board.
South African
Designed locally with the long-term goal of local manufacture, assembly and skills development.
Programmable
A beginner-friendly programmable board for learning coding, electronics and physical computing.
Expandable
Connections for sensors, lights, motors and other accessories so learners can keep building.
LED Display
Built-in LEDs for numbers, symbols, animations and interactive projects.
Built-in Sensors
Explore integrating motion, temperature, sound, light and other sensors directly onto the board.
Designed here. Built here. Learned on everywhere.
The long-term DeenBit vision is bigger than a single device. We want to explore how locally designed educational technology can help develop programming, electronics, engineering and manufacturing skills in South Africa.
DeenBit v2.0 is currently a concept and development journey. The final hardware, components and design may evolve as we prototype and learn.
